The Opportunity

The BD Consultancy, a specialist advisory firm serving senior marketing and business development leaders across law, accountancy, and consulting, sought strategic input to sharpen its own outreach while delivering high-impact solutions for three of its clients: a leading private wealth law firm; a top 10 global law firm; and a global network of independent accounting and consulting firms.

Each engagement required tailored support—from designing commercially compelling marketing strategies and client engagement frameworks, to enabling cross-border collaboration and insight-led service delivery. The common thread: helping professional services firms deepen client relationships, drive growth, and future-proof their BD and marketing functions.

My Role

The Sixth D partnered with The BD Consultancy across four distinct but interconnected projects:

  • Strategic marketing planning: Reviewed and enhanced The BD Consultancy’s 2026–2028 marketing strategy, aligning outreach with growth ambitions. Proposed a high-impact content framework, channel integration plan, and KPI dashboard to track ROI. Curated two flagship roundtables—one in-person and one virtual—on AI and emotional intelligence in client engagement, to be hosted at a leading law firm’s London offices and moderated by The Sixth D.

  • Client listening & key account strategy: For a leading private wealth law firm, I refined the scope and implementation plan for a firm-wide Key Account Management and Client Listening programme. Designed a client selection framework and engagement process to build insight-led, enterprise relationships that drive revenue and accountability.

  • Team enablement & strategic resourcing: Supported The BD Consultancy’s engagement with a top 10 global law firm by drafting a role specification for a Senior Strategic Advisor to complement a newly appointed BD Manager. The role focused on partner coaching, strategic input, and cross-office collaboration to accelerate client development.

  • Global consistency & market intelligence: Conducted extensive desk research for a global accountancy network to benchmark internal event strategies and uncover client expectations for joined-up service delivery. Mapped key themes—procurement, branding, billing, technology, and fee consistency—across global networks to inform strategic recommendations.

Results

  • Sharper strategic focus: The BD Consultancy is now better prepared to operate between 2026 to 2028 with a more commercially compelling marketing plan, clearer KPIs, and a content strategy designed to resonate with target audiences and drive measurable engagement.

  • Enhanced client impact: Its clients benefited from frameworks that elevate client listening, enable strategic BD resourcing, and align global service delivery with enterprise client expectations.
